James Henry: We want Wolves to do better

Winger James Henry is eager for Wolves to hit the ground running next season after declaring "we all want to do better."

The 27-year-old and the rest of the club's first-team squad return for pre-season training next week to begin preparations for another Championship campaign.

Last season's 14th-placed finish was branded 'average' by Henry, who believes pre-season offers a chance to put solid foundations in place.

He said: "Before you know it you're be back in on that first day of pre-season and Tony Daley will have you put through your paces.

"It's about making sure you're not too overweight and that you have a base of fitness. That's the key – to come back as fit as possible because we want to hit the ground running."

Henry went on: "Last season we probably didn't finish where we wanted to and, as a team, we want to do better – all of us. Personally I want to do better as well."

Henry was among Wolves' top performers last term, with his consistent displays enough to earn third place in the voting for Player of the Season.

Yet the campaign was universally viewed as a step backwards for a club which had only missed out on the play-offs on goal difference a year before.

Head coach Kenny Jackett is eager for signings in order to challenge higher up the table but, to this point, goalkeeper Andy Lonergan remains the only summer arrival.

New additions are now unlikely until after the squad has returned for pre-season. Wolves have been monitoring a number of potential targets as they look to strengthen their forward line.

One of them, Newcastle's Adam Armstrong, could miss the start of the campaign through injury. The 19-year-old is being tracked by a host of clubs after a successful loan spell with Coventry City in League One last season.

He's understood to have picked up a thigh injury while on international duty with England Under-19s.

Anderlecht striker Idrissa Sylla remains a prime target for Wolves, who are also tracking Manchester United forward James Wilson.
