WATCH: Kenny Jackett hails matchwinner Matt Doherty
Kenny Jackett hailed match-winner Matt Doherty after Wolves' last-gasp win over Bristol City, saying: His time is now.
Doherty, who earlier set up Nathan Byrne's opener, headed home Jeremy Helan's cross in the third minute of injury time for a memorable late Wolves winner.
And Jackett called for Doherty, who was one of the oldest players in a very young Wolves side whose average outfield age at full time was 21, to become one of his leaders.
"It was a great header," Jackett said. "I'm very pleased, he'd made one and scored one, on the end of a very good delivery.
"He's an asset for us because he's been strong defensively. The most important thing for Matt is that it has to be his time now. I want him to come through and be a leader now.
"He was one of the older players out there in the second half and he has to step up now, build on what he's done and be one of the players to lead Wolves.
"We're building a new side, that's evident for everybody. We want to see character, determination and leadership and it's his test to provide that for the club."
Jackett was disappointed at yet more sloppy defending for Bristol City's equaliser, scored by Aden Flint 13 minutes from time.
But he praised the battling spirit of his young side to push on and claim the dramatic win, with teenager Connor Hunte coming on for his Wolves debut in the final minutes.
"I'm delighted with the spirit they showed," he said.
"We're okay with that (young average age) - we've got a strong academy and the players coming in are very capable.
"We want to finish off the 10 games we have very strongly. If we can continue to get some key players back, and for some of our young players to keep developing, there are positive signs."
Robins boss Lee Johnson was furious that Danny Batth had kicked a drop ball out for a throw in the lead-up to the winner.
But Jackett said: "That's just splitting hairs, really."
And of withdrawing Kevin McDonald for the returning Michal Zyro at half time, the Wolves boss added: "I felt we needed an extra forward. I was very keen to get him in around some strong centre halves."
Jackett also revealed that Bjorn Sigurdarson missed the game with a knee injury, but it doesn't expected to keep him out for long.
And Adam Le Fondre was missing as his wife was giving birth to a baby daughter, named Aubree, as the striker revealed on Twitter.
