Gutted: Benik Afobe exit is a huge loss, admits Dave Edwards
Wolves stalwart David Edwards said he didn't blame Benik Afobe for joining Bournemouth but declared: "I'm gutted to see him leave."
And Edwards hailed Afobe as the best striker he has played with during his eight years at the club.
Afobe has only been at the club for 12 months but having scored 23 goals in that time he has left an indelible mark on his team mates.
Edwards said: "From a selfish point of view and a Wolves point of view it's a real loss.
"I'm gutted to see him leave if it all goes through, because we lose a Premier League player.
"That's what he is, that's what (Bakary) Sako was, and as a club we will feel the effect of not having Benik in our team, because he is that good, he's a terrific player.
"You can't blame him for wanting to go. I would stick my neck on the line to say he's the best striker Wolves have had since I've been here for the past eight years.
"He really does bring that much. he's as striker who'll do everything – he'll come and get the ball to feet, he's very good on the half turn, but then he's an out-and-out goalscorer. Those attributes are going to attract Premier League scouts."
"He does fully deserve his chance, there's no doubt about that, but unfortunately it's our loss."
Edwards believes Afobe will '100 per cent' be a hit in the Premier League – and backed him to go on to play for a 'top, top team'
But he doesn't think the 22-year-old is motivated by money.

"He's not money orientated at all, he's not that sort of boy," the Welshman added. "Knowing him he'll be more interested in watching Match of the Day rather than looking at his bank balance. He's just not that character. In that way you can't wish him the best enough."
"He'll be a hit in the Premier League, 100 percent, he'll score goals, if he stays fit and plays games he'll score goals at any level.
"I think he's got the mentality to go on again and play for a top, top team.
"Benik's been terrific for the most of (the 12 months he's been at Wolves), he's scored a lot of goals, led the line well, the end of last year he was absolutely terrific.
"He'd be honest enough to say himself he hasn't been at his best this season but he's still scored 10 goals so that shows you the type of player he is."
Edwards has seen enough ups and downs at Molineux over the years not to panic over the loss of one player.
And he issued a rallying cry to the Wolves supporters that whoever lines up against Fulham tomorrow night will be giving everything for the cause.
"Whoever's wearing that gold shirt, they will make sure they leave everything on that pitch on Tuesday night," he added.
"We can't do anything about who comes in and who goes, hopefully the fans will see that and really get behind us."
