An own goal from Wolverhampton-born Connor Goldson was enough to make it nine points from nine since Christmas.

It left Wolves six points off the play-offs ahead of today's Championship games – all a far cry from just 12 days ago when Jackett was under serious pressure after the 4-1 hammering against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

So what has made the difference for Wolves? Jackett said: "We've had some physically stronger players coming into the team.

"And we've worked more off the ball than on the ball. We've been a technical side, very good on the ball, passages of excellent football within every game, and the Leeds game was a very good example where for 35 minutes we were excellent and ended up getting beaten 3-2. It was similar at Hillsborough although the turnaround was quicker.

"We've emphasised and worked on our defending, our work off the ball in particular and being hard to beat and competitive, and see where that takes us.

"The players showed a lot of character."

Wolves now have a two-week break from league action.

Jackett said the club couldn't stand still and rest on what had been achieved in the past week.

"It's certainly a start for us after a very difficult couple of games where you could see the confidence draining out of the team, certainly on the ball," he added.

"We needed to really concentrate off the ball. We needed to be physically stronger, more powerful to cope with the division, more organised and make it more difficult for the opposition.

"Do we need to build on that to be a good side? Yes we do. We need to work as a club to close that gap and that is our aspiration.

"There's a lot of character in the dressing room, effort, application and will to play for the club.

"You need that and quality to be a successful side. They're shown that in abundance in the past week.

"We want to build on what we've done, we don't want to stand still."

Jackett said an initial diagnosis was that an injury which forced Jordan Graham off the field, after he had provided yet another assist for the goal, wasn't serious. And Carl Ikeme is believed to have been suffering only with cramp.

The Wolves boss also played down reports that a deal for Newcastle centre half Mike Williamson was close to being completed.
