Kenny Jackett challenges Wolves to show heart

Kenny Jackett has called for 'big hearts and big characters' to turn around Wolves' form – as rumours resurfaced of interest from QPR in luring him to Loftus Road.

The London club are still hunting for a permanent new boss and Jackett is thought to be on their radar.

Up-and-coming Burton manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is their number one target and the Dutchman is said to be keen on the job.

But the prospect of Jackett being courted by a Championship rival will not sit comfortably with the Molineux hierarchy at a time when instability is rife at the club in the wake of Steve Morgan's shock departure as chairman.

Senior QPR players are believed to be keen for interim manager Neil Warnock and assistant Kevin Blackwell to remain in charge at Loftus Road.

Rangers want to appoint a new boss before they play Reading this Thursday and reports in London suggest they will soon make contact with Wolves about speaking to Jackett. He spent three years there as Ian Holloway's assistant from 2001.

Blues chief Gary Rowett and Chris Powell, recently sacked by Huddersfield, have also been considered by QPR.

Meanwhile, Jackett has demanded his side dig deep to turn around their current bad run, which has seen them win just one of their last eight matches.

A 0-0 draw at home to MK Dons on Saturday did little to lift the gloom around the club, despite a largely dominant performance from Jackett's side. He said: "We need big hearts and big characters to push through, that is what is always needed, but we have enough in that dressing room to be able to turn the corner and start to work our way up the table."

"We are closer to the bottom than we are to the top and everyone then quite rightly starts looking over their shoulders. We have to come through that period."

and make sure we are good enough to address the bits that we are missing, retain our self belief, and start to climb the table."
