The 20-year-old midfielder has stunned supporters with his emergence after making his debut as a substitute in the 4-0 win against Gillingham in August.

Price has played just 14 League games and was thought to be out of contract at the end of the season, a prospect which would have left him open to offers.

But the club insist they have taken up a 12-month option on his current deal, meaning he is contracted to 2015.

And they want to make it clear they intend to reward the Shrewsbury-born youngster, who has been with Wolves since he was seven, with a new deal.

Head of football operations Kevin Thelwell is the man head coach Kenny Jackett credits with keeping the diminutive playmaker at the club when others wanted to discard him for not being big enough.

Thelwell said: "We already have an option to keep him here until summer 2015.

"But as with all players, when they're in the team and playing well, we're always ready to look at their contract situation.

"Jack's an excellent young player who's taken his opportunity very well."

It's understood early talks are already underway to draw up a new contract to keep Price, who is seen as having a long-term future at Wolves, as the heartbeat of the exciting new team evolving under Jackett.

And the head coach said: "Jack Price is a really good player.

"We haven't come this far for him to get to 21 and get into the first team and then not to reward him.

"It (contract) is not something we're going to overlook.

"I think he has a terrific future and a terrific future with Wolves.

"He's shown a maturity beyond his years.

"We like Jack, we're very pleased with him and see him as a player for the future.

"Youth policy is now very expensive and not like it was when it was the cheap option - you have to make it work.

"For us to bring young players through is something we want to do and is an advantage.

"We have been very patient with Jack, who tells me he's been at the club since he was seven years old."
