Wolves' Dave Edwards impressed by former club Shrewsbury
Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards has backed former club Shrewsbury Town to better last season's 16th-place finish in League One.
Edwards played the last 24 minutes of his current side's 1-0 win over Town at the weekend and the 27-year-old Wales international, who grew up supporting Shrewsbury, was impressed with the showing from Graham Turner's team.
And asked if Shrewsbury have got what it takes to hold their own in their second season in League One, he said: "Definitely.
"The aim will be consolidation again, but I think they can be looking more towards mid-table and the top half of the table than last season.
"They've got some good players, but I think a lot with Shrewsbury depends on keeping people fit because it's only a small squad. But if they do that, they will be there or thereabouts."
Edwards, who played 120 games for Town between 2003-2007, received a warm reception from the home fans on Saturday.
And he said: "It was lovely. I had a lump in my throat. it was such a nice thing when they clap you.
"I was probably the most nervous I've been for a football match stood on the sidelines waiting to come on, and that includes playing at Old Trafford and my Wales debut in Germany.
"I just wanted to get on the pitch, come off injury-free and get the points."
