Dean Saunders' block on landing Wolves targets
Wolves boss Dean Saunders today admitted he is having trouble persuading Premier League loan targets to come to the club after missing out on another striker.
The Molineux boss has been after a forward and has enquired about several players in the top-flight.
Norwich's Simeon Jackson has been watched by them for some time, while QPR's Jamie Mackie and Stoke's Cameron Jerome have been linked with moves to the club.
But he has missed out on another un-named forward after holding talks on Wednesday, with their perilous position one of the stumbling blocks.
Saunders revealed on Tuesday they were in talks with "three or four Premier League clubs" about strikers but could only move when the teams were safe.
But top-flight clubs only have two more games before the loan window shuts on March 28 and he is running out of time.
He said: "That's got a bit to do with it, and clubs not wanting to let them go.
"And then there are players who have been let go who aren't scoring – that's why they're letting them go.
"I was given permission to speak to a Premier League player on Wednesday but I don't think that one is going to happen.
"There's a bit more to it than just a look at the league table - some of them are out of contract, some are under contract, some want a deal for next season or they don't want to come.
"And because there aren't many players, there are other clubs for those players to consider as well."
Saunders admits it is difficult finding a striker better than what he already has.
He said: "I look at Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Kevin Doyle and Bjorn Sigurdarson - who we paid £2.5million for last summer - and anyone coming in has to be better than those and Jake Cassidy, who was Tranmere's top scorer in League One.
"I'm looking at players thinking 'they have either got to be different or better, if I'm going to bring any strikers in, or for that matter, midfielders or defenders. But there aren't that many who are available right now.
"Managers are changing their minds on players. I'm not just saying we need strikers, we need a couple of players but at the minute we haven't been able to get them in.
"Some have other options, with teams not involved in a relegation fight."
