Adam Hammill has another chance at Wolves

Adam Hammill was today launching a last-gasp bid to rescue his Wolves career after being handed a fresh chance to impress.

Manager Dean Saunders is having a closer look at the 24-year-old winger, whose four-and-a-half-month loan at Huddersfield expired last weekend.

Saunders intends to spend a few days assessing the former Barnsley wide man, who has 18 months left on his contract, before making a decision on his future.

Hammill has plenty of competition on the flanks in the shape of Bakary Sako, fit-again Slawomir Peszko and Anthony Forde, although a gap has been created by Jermaine Pennant's return to Stoke after his loan expired this week.

But the Scouser intends to make the most of his latest opportunity after failing to secure a regular place under the last three managers at Molineux.

The man who signed him almost two years ago to the day, Mick McCarthy, plus Terry Connor and Stale Solbakken have all used him sparingly.

Saunders has spoken to Huddersfield boss Simon Grayson, who would be happy for the winger to return to the Terriers for another loan spell.

But he has to wait for Saunders' verdict on the one-time Liverpool FA Youth Cup winner and he wants to keep an open mind about all of the players.

However, Saunders admits some may have to be moved on quicker than he'd want if targets become available at the right price.

He said: "We will probably get offers for some and without me even working with them – I might have to say 'yes' if it sheds a few players because I might need the money to get a couple in.

"But, ideally, I would like to see them all play and work with them. All I ask of them is they be patient with me."

Hammill ended his loan with a spectacular, last-gasp equaliser against Birmingham, his second goal in 16 appearances for Huddersfield, although he only started six games.
