Solbakken to keep tactics
Stale Solbakken today defended Wolves' switch to zonal marking and insisted it will improve the team.
The introduction of the system has proved controversial, with players having challenged the Wolves boss and asking if they can return to a more British style man-to-man marking.
Wolves are desperately seeking an improvement after nine games without a win before tomorrow's trip to improving Bristol City.
But the Norwegian has vowed to persevere with zonal marking – and is so convinced it will succeed that he predicted Wolves will finish among the top four in the Championship for goals conceded. Their record of 26 goals against currently ranks them as the 11th in the second tier.
"We're playing a different type of defending – the zonal system whereby you look where the ball and your team-mate are more and you don't chase so much after your opponent," said the boss.
"It involves taking your movements from where the ball and your next team-mate is – and it will improve us.
"So I'm quite confident we'll be one of the three or four teams who will let in the fewest goals this season."
Solbakken added: "We've been very unlucky in the last few games conceding goals. I don't think the defence is my biggest concern."
