The 29-year-old Stoke winger, who is out of contract next summer, has joined Wolves for an initial three months to cover for injured trio Razak Boukari, Slawomir Peszko and Stephen Hunt.

But the former Liverpool and Birmingham wideman chose Molineux ahead of Leeds – one of his former loan teams – and home-town club Forest.

"I was surprised and I was shocked to get the news I was available for a loan move," said Nottingham-born Pennant, whose career began at Notts County.

"Leeds and Nottingham Forest were options, but Wolves is closer to home, they're doing great and they're a massive club."
