Wolves release Nenad Milijas to return to Red Star Belgrade

The agreement with Wolves meant the 29-year-old Serbia international, who was into the last year of his deal, was a free agent.

And he wasted no time in accepting a flexible offer from his old team, who he captained prior to his £2.6m move to Wolves in 2009.

Milijas has agreed a one-year deal which could run to four years. He flew to Belgrade earlier today ready to complete paperwork with the Serbian FA so he can be available for a league game on Sunday at home to Radnicki Nis before the international break.

"The manager had told Nenad his opportunities were going to be very limited this season and, as a result, we have reached mutual agreement on the cancellation of his contract," said chief executive Jez Moxey.

"He leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the club."

Milijas chose to return to Belgrade where he is likely to have regular football, rather than take up one of several loan options here.

Kevin Doyle, however, is expected to stay. Molineux's top brass have been aware of Everton's interest in the Ireland international for a long time.

The Toffees were blocked from taking the 28-year-old striker in January, while he is also on Aston Villa's radar.
