Stale Solbakken has returned to Norway with a message to his new Wolves squad of players to report back "mentally clear" for the Championship slog stretching before them.

Solbakken is back home having spent an intensive 48 hours in his new post thrashing out planning details for the task he will start in earnest in July.

The new Molineux boss met with all the football staff left unchanged since the departure of former manager Mick McCarthy while also staging wide-ranging discussions with chief executive Jez Moxey.

Now his thoughts are on relaxation and readiness for pre-season training which he wants his players to approach ready and willing to embrace the new regime.

"It's important that everybody comes in with a mentally clear head," said Solbakken before leaving after his two-day visit.

"Everyone needs a vacation so that they can be ready for a marathon. I haven't had a vacation since I quit in Cologne so I'm looking to some days relaxing without football so I'm 100 per cent ready.

"They play 33 games in the Danish League and 34 in the Bundesliga. There are a lot more in the Championship but I'm not going to be playing in them – it's my job to get the players ready."

Solbakken is sure to have discussed transfer targets with chief scout Dave Bowman in the event of Wolves being 'cherry-picked' by Premier League outfits for their top players.
