Terry Connor backing Wolves strikers

Terry Connor today insisted Wolves have the firepower to win their Premier League survival battle.
Wolves failed to conjure a worthwhile attempt on goal in Sunday's 5-0 debacle at Fulham.
They now face a crucial visit of fellow strugglers Blackburn having gone six home games without a win which has cranked up the pressure to attack in front of the Molineux masses.
Rovers have won just once in 13 away games but they enjoyed a 3-2 success at Wolves on Survival Sunday in May and a shock 3-2 victory at Old Trafford on New Year's Eve.
Boss Connor opted to keep fit-again 10-goal top scorer Steven Fletcher on the bench until the last 29 minutes at Craven Cottage, as Kevin Doyle ploughed a lone furrow up front.
Doyle has recovered from a 13-match lean spell which ultimately cost him his place in the team to notch twice in his last four games to double his tally for the season.
Connor is convinced Fletcher and Doyle possess the goals to keep Wolves in the Premier League.
He said: "If you can get a group of players as good as Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher, then you are giving yourself every chance.
"If one of them isn't firing, the other is and they understand that as strikers.
"You go through spells when you score goals and spells when it doesn't go quite your way.
"But as long as you put yourself up there, which Kevin and Fletcher have, between them, they get the job done."
Goal droughts, loss of form, tactical reasons and injuries have accounted for Fletcher and Doyle each missing four of Wolves' 27 League games in 2011-12.
But Connor stressed his belief that things will change over a season.
He said: "It's about what happens over a season and, often, the team that start off in August isn't the one that finishes in May.
"It changes and things fluctuate – a player might have a lean spell in one part of the season and then come good in the next part.
"So it's about having a group of players ready to play and when asked to play, they give of their best.
"And I'm sure Fletcher is one of those.
"Kevin has had a lean spell this season where he hasn't played as well and hasn't featured as much because of it.
"But who knows? This might be his 11 games."
Connor admitted Doyle's loss of form was a mystery, but he understands how circumstances can influence players' performances.
He said: "I can't put my finger on it, but I do know he's a human being and I do know things will change.
"Things at home or work might change, things change which can cause a human being to lose their form or their focus for a little bit.
"But that's why you have a group of players whereby, if Kevin was having a lean spell and Fletcher had his purple patch where he was scoring goals and being important to us as a team.
"Then it might fluctuate again between now the end of the season.
"Things change and that's why you need a group of players."
