Wolves boss Mick McCarthy today revealed Karl Henry remains 'first pick' and should be a fans' hero ahead of tomorrow's Black Country derby at The Hawthorns.

The former captain has been under fire from some fans and his substitution during the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle at Molineux two weeks ago drew sarcastic cheers, prompting criticism of supporters by skipper Roger Johnson and Jamie O'Hara.

But McCarthy remains Henry's biggest fan and says the Wolverhampton-born midfielder identifies more with the Albion clash than anyone else.

"It's Karl Henry and 10 others playing for Wolves tomorrow," said the boss. He's out there representing all those locals behind the goal who are passionate about the club – 'Karlos' is on the pitch doing it for them. I don't have to condemn other people for getting at him."
