Captain Roger Johnson today led a chorus of Wolves players in condemning the "disgraceful" treatment of Karl Henry at the Newcastle game. Wolves players who interpreted the sarcastic cheering from home fans that greeted Henry's substitution in the 2-1 defeat as being directed at the midfielder were dismayed. Johnson, who said he has never encountered such abuse, only feels able to talk about it now, six days after the event and said: "I thought it was a disgrace, disgusting. It stinks." "If the fans want to have a bitch at me about it then fine, but I thought they were bang out of order.
"There are no reasons for that and it should never happen.
Appreciated
"And for someone who's served this club so well for so long and been captain, it was undeserved. It's not going to help anyone."
Johnson feels Henry isn't appreciated by those fans.
"Fans see the good things; they want to see goals," said the £4.5m defender.
"But sometimes it's a backs-to-the-wall job and the likes of Karl break up the game. They might not take three players on and stick one in the top corner but they're solid in their position. Karl's a big part of the team."
Jody Craddock, who suffered in his early days at Molineux, said: "Karl busts a gut in every game and does a fantastic job.
"It's frustrating because these are Wolves fans – our fans. They're fantastic but they do get frustrated.
Ronald Zubar, who was booed at Marseille, said: "I cannot accept it because Karl's always there battling away for us and he's a big player for us."
