The New Saints gain their Word Cup revenge
The New Saints booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Word Cup with a 2-1 home victory over Airbus UK Broughton.
Young midfielder Ryan Kershaw further enhanced his reputation with a well-taken strike,
It was the third meeting in as many seasons between the clubs in the cup, with the Saints avenging last year's 2-1 defeat.
Kershaw and Ryan Fraughan netted either side of half-time before Glenn Rule bagged a late reply for the Wingmakers.
Using the tie to ring the changes, the Saints started brightly with plenty of possession with an early shot from Kershaw saved by goalkeeper James Coates.
Chris Seargeant fired wide and defender Connell Rawlinson drove a terrific effort just over as TNS continued to press.
Scott Quigley and Fraughan both shot narrowly off target, before taking the lead six minutes before half-time.
Midfielder Kershaw picked up the ball on the edge of the box before drilling a low shot into the net.
The Saints started the second-half on the front foot, and soon doubled their lead four minutes after the break when Fraughan turned in a right wing cross from Adrian Cieslewicz.
Both sides rattled the woodwork, Airbus sub Rule then forced goalkeeper Chris Mullock into a smart save, before setting up a tense finish when pulling one back two minutes from time.
