Shrewsbury Town's ambition was an attraction for Ryan Giles

On-loan starlet Ryan Giles revealed Shrewsbury’s ambition was the reason he chose to join from Wolves – as he sets about continuing to prove himself.

The teenager got his season-long loan at Town off to the best possible start with a wondergoal winner in last weekend’s League One victory over Portsmouth.

Giles, who knew boss Sam Ricketts from parent club Wolves, says he got a feel for the club’s ambition after initial talks with the manager.

“It was straight from the off,” said Giles, 19, when asked about excitement for the season ahead.

“When I was looking for a loan I had a couple of options and, speaking to the gaffer, I thought straight away this is a good club and a club that wants to go somewhere.

“It struck me straight away and made me want to come. Playing here when I played for Wolves, with the atmosphere and fanbase, you put two and two together and it’s a no-brainer.

“It made me want to come and play for Shrewsbury Town. I want to get as many games under my belt as I can, work hard and always learn as I’m still young."

Giles, a former winger, will play left wing-back for Town this season after being transformed into that position by Wolves. He added: “The main difference now is results, having to win a game because points matter.

“I’ve got to prove a point at the end of the day.

“I’m coming into League football, I knew it’d be very different to what I’m used to, a lot of second balls and tough physical games.

“I was nervous but I wanted to come out and prove to everyone I have got what it takes.”
