Shrewsbury Town are keeping options open – with Bristol City goalkeeper Max O'Leary of interest
Shrewsbury Town would be interested in signing another goalkeeper this window.
The Shropshire Star understands Town have shown interest in highly-rated Bristol City shot-stopper Max O’Leary.
Any move for another goalkeeper would add to the capture of free transfer Reice Charles-Cook earlier this month.
Boss Sam Ricketts hinted Shrews could be in for another glovesman earlier this month.
And O’Leary has been looked at, but any move to bring him in could depend on a suspected calf injury to another Robins goalkeeper, Niki Maenpaa.
Should the Finn recover from the injury then City will almost certainly allow O’Leary, 22, to leave on loan.
The shot-stopper has made five first-team appearances for the Championship outfit this season – four in the league – while deputising between the sticks.
He has impressed during those displays.
Steve Arnold is currently Town’s No.1, but Ricketts remains keen on more competition for the position. Joel Coleman was recalled by parent club Huddersfield earlier in the month.
Another goalkeeper believed to have attracted Shrews’ interest was Ludlow shot-stopper Harry Burgoyne, who watched Town at the Meadow at the beginning of the month.
But Wolves keeper Burgoyne, 22, yesterday completed a loan to Scottish Championship side Falkirk until the end of the season.
Shrewsbury’s January exodus continued as midfielder Doug Loft joined National League outfit Dagenham & Redbridge on loan until the end of the season.
Loft, 32, becomes the ninth player to leave Montgomery Waters Meadow this month after 66 minutes of league football for Town since his summer arrival.
The former Port Vale captain had not been in a League One matchday squad since the 3-2 defeat at Luton on August 25.
Meanwhile, former Town winger Arthur Gnahoua – who was released last week – has joined League Two side Carlisle United.
