Goal for 'brilliant' Shrewsbury Town will take some time to hit home – boyhood Stoke fan James Bolton
James Bolton felt Shrewsbury put in a 'brilliant' second half display and insists his thunderbolt against boyhood club Stoke will take time to sink in.
The defender, from Stone in Staffordshire, played and scored in his first professional game at the Bet365 Stadium, where he used to watch Stoke as a supporter.
His super strike from the right side of the Potters penalty box rocketed into the opposite top corner to hand Shrews a lifeline at 2-1 – and within 10 minutes Sam Ricketts' side had completed their remarkable turnaround.
When asked if it gets any better for the right-back, who had family watching on at the Britannia, Bolton replied: "I don't think it does to be honest, I actually don't.
"Unbelievable. The first half we were poor, looked a little bit shaky defensively but the second half we were straight on them and they didn't like it.
"It was a brilliant performance second half.
"An unbelievable feeling. I was saying to the lads that all the misses I've ever done all accumulated to that!
"I don't think it'll hit home but it's one of those things I can always look back on and think I scored a goal at Stoke and it was a good goal, I was buzzing with that."
Bolton's goal – just his second in 67 Shrewsbury games – preceded a penalty from Fejiri Okenabirhie and Josh Laurent's winner on a stunning night in the Potteries.
Town face a fourth round tie against Ricketts' and Dave Edwards' former club Wolves on January 26.
