John Askey has sympathy with want-away Shrewsbury duo Jon Nolan and Toto Nsiala
Shrewsbury chief John Askey has revealed he has sympathy with Jon Nolan and Toto Nsiala – as the pair look set to complete moves to Ipswich.
Askey believes Nolan and Nsiala have had their heads turned by agents and other parties, suggesting that the players were aware of The Tractor Boys’ interest before a ‘texted’ bid was lodged.
The boss understands the possible life-changing move to the Championship and another reunion with former Town manager Hurst appeals to his star duo.
And he has sympathy after the pair sought to take matters into their own hands by pushing a deal through to reunite with ex-boss Paul Hurst after submitting transfer requests.
“I spoke to Jon and Toto. It’s difficult with how football is now with agents, I’m sure they heard well before we did – well I know they did,” Askey said.
“You’ve not only got agents, there’s other people in their ear and it becomes unsettling and very difficult.
“But when you have a Championship club coming in they know that can change their lives.”
Nolan and Nsiala have been subjected to online messages from disappointed supporters, who are far from pleased at the players attempting to push through moves after the club rejected Ipswich’s initial bids for the pair.
“I have sympathy with them,” the boss added. “It’s difficult for everybody.”
