Kieran Kennedy delighted with Shrewsbury move
New Shrewsbury defender Kieran Kennedy admits the chance to be re-united with John Askey was key to his move.
Kennedy has arrived from Macclesfield Town on a one-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
And he revealed the chance to play again under Askey, who guided the Silkmen to the National League title last season, played a big part in his decision to move.
“I’m delighted to be here,” said Kennedy. “I spoke to the gaffer last week and I was really looking forward to the chance to sign.
“We did well last year in the Conference, we didn’t expect to go up but we did really well and the gaffer was a big part in that so I’m delighted.
“The gaffer had a big part in my decision to come here. I spoke to him quite a lot over the summer to see what’s happening.
“I love the way he plays football. I think that helps me with my game and he was definitely a big part in it.
“This is probably the biggest move I have had and I can’t wait to get started.
“The lads did really well last season and were unfortunate not to go up so hopefully we can try and emulate that. We’re definitely looking towards promotion.”
"Defending is the number one priority for me being a centre-half. I like to play out from the back and I feel everything should start from the back.
“I’ve played there for pretty much all my career. I can play defensive mid as well which I did a few times last year for Macc but defintely centre-half is my number one position.”
