Paul Hurst stays upbeat after Shrewsbury home defeat
Boss Paul Hurst is determined to stay focused on Shrewsbury’s positives with a glass half full approach after a rare home defeat.
Town lost at Montgomery Waters Meadow in the league for just the second time this season as an impressive Plymouth side kept up their fine recent form to come from behind and win 2-1.
Carlton Morris’ sixth-minute strike, his eighth goal of the season, was cancelled out shortly before half hour by Jamie Ness, after Craig MacGillivray had saved Graham Carey’s spot-kick.
The winner was scored by defender Zak Vyner from a corner just after the hour.
Sheffield United loanee Nathan Thomas tried in vain to haul his side back into the clash.
In a weekend where none of League One’s top three tasted victory, the damage done on Town’s promotion credentials was minimal. Hurst, known for staying calm and calculated, was keen to remain upbeat.
“You all know what I’m like. In general people say I’m glass half empty, I prefer to take that look at things when it’s going well,” he said.
“Maybe I’ll switch that around and be more positive when it hasn’t gone well.
“We’re still in a great position. That group of players have been absolutely fantastic. Supporters backed the players and stood up and applauded. They appreciate what we’ve done and how far we’ve come.
“It’s very easy to just enjoy it when things are going well. That’s not life. There’s bumps in the road always and it’s how you respond when you do get a disappointment and things don’t go your way.”
Town have Tuesday fixtures, as well as Saturday, in every week for the rest of month – beginning at Fleetwood tomorrow.
Hurst added: “Are you going to chuck all your toys out the pram and sulk? Because that won’t get us anywhere, I’m experienced enough to know that.
“We move on to tomorrow, it’s good we’ve got a game, and see if we can do better than what we’ve done there.”
