Shrewsbury Town cut manager shortlist down to ten potential bosses says Brian Caldwell
Shrewsbury Town chief executive Brian Caldwell revealed that the managerial shortlist is down to ten - and will aim for between three and five at an interview stage.
The Scot previously went on record admitting that the club had received into triple figures in terms of applicants.
The role, to replace Micky Mellon who last week left for National League Tranmere Rovers, has been a popular one - with interest still coming in seven days later.
But along with chairman Roland Wycherley, director James Hughes and secretary Jayne Bebb, the recruitment process had been whittled down to 10.
Temporary manager Danny Coyne will oversee the visit to Walsall on Saturday.
Caldwell will aim for a pool of between three and five bosses before the official interview stage kicks in.
"I'll be honest, last night I was at around about the ten mark. The chairman and I have had long deliberations," said the chief executive.
"Because there are so many names you can be looking at the list and you can become confused because you're looking so many times.
"Your mind's going around in circles so you have to give due diligence to the ones you potentially identify.
"But there's around the ten mark that we haven't discounted at the present time, shall we say, so it's important that we get less than that - because there's no point interviewing ten people.
"We need to get it to five or less in my own opinion. I think you can be confusing yourself even more if you start interviewing more than that.
"We would like to get to the stage of speaking to a few people and getting a feel for them.
"Because I do think if you meet people face-to-face then you get a better feel for how they are, rather than just going for CVs and recommendations - you want to see the whites of their eyes."
