Formerly working as the boss at St. Mirren, Rae has thrown his name into the ring for the Salop job, which has been available since Micky Mellon left the club by mutual consent.

The 47-year-0ld is well-known by chief executive Brian Caldwell having worked together in Scotland, and was previously interested in the role before Mellon was appointed in 2014.

Alongside St. Mirren, Rae has worked with Dundee, MK Dons, Blackpool and Genk.

The current favourite to take the reigns is former Wolves boss Kenny Jackett, whilst previous names including Tony Mowbray, Steve Cotterill and Paul Hurst have all ruled out a move to Greenhous Meadow.

Current caretaker Danny Coyne is in charge of the team for the moment, although he's also announced that he won't be running for the role on a permanent basis.
