Mickey Demetriou's Town progress hailed
Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon has praised the way defender Mickey Demetriou has handled the demands of life in the Football League.
The wing-back was snapped up in the summer after impressing with Kidderminster Harriers in the Conference Premier last term.
The 24-year-old, who has spent time both in non-league and at the Glenn Hoddle Academy, has this season racked up 35 appearances and helped Town keep 20 clean sheets.
Mellon said: "When you consider Mickey has never played in the Football League before, he is doing very well.
"He has battled his way up through the levels and now he is involved with 14 games to go in a positive situation at Shrewsbury.
"I noticed him at Kidderminster because I have good connections in non-league. He fitted the profile of what I wanted for a left-back, so I brought him in.
"I love giving young lads, who are hungry, the opportunity to play in the Football League, and I'm pleased I took a chance on him."
In Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Tranmere, Demetriou required oxygen treatment and hospital care after a collision with Kayode Odejayi.
But he was set to train today and be fit for Northampton's visit to Greenhous Meadow on Saturday.
Mellon added: "He has done very well in his time here, but he will be the first to say we are always on at him to keep improving.
"We are gently pushing him along and we will keep making him better. He has got a great attitude, he keeps wanting to get better."
Meanwhile, James Wesolowski and Nat Knight-Percival are to have operations on their injured knees, today and tomorrow respectively.
