Julian Bennett joins Shrewsbury Town on loan
Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner beefed up his defensive resources this afternoon by bringing in defender Julian Bennett on a month's loan.
The 27-year-old goes straight into Town's squad for tomorrow's FA cup first-round trip to Hereford after he was given permission to play by parent club Sheffield Wednesday.
Turner had targeted the former Walsall and Nottingham Forest left-back over the past week, but the deal was held up while Bennett resolved a family problem.
Bennett has failed to feature for Wednesday under Dave Jones this term, but joins the Shrews initially for a month.
He is Turner's third loan signing in the past fortnight, joining striker Jamie Proctor and midfielder Jeremy Helan. But, unlike those two players, he will offer much-needed experience.
"Julian's played numerous games at a higher level. We've brought in a number of younger players, but Julian is a more experienced player," said Turner .
"He should have come in last week, but I'm really looking forward to working with him now."
The defender made 20 starts for Wednesday last season after signing for former Owks manager Gary Megson for the second time in his career in the summer of 2011.
The Nottingham-born player rose through the Walsall ranks after making his debut in 2004 before moving to his home-town club two years later.
