Shrewsbury Town fans' favourite Jermaine Grandison is confident he can take the rise to League One in his stride.

The popular defender made big progress in his first full season at the Greenhous Meadow, making 40 starts in Town's promotion campaign.

And Grandison believes he can continue that upward curve next term and meet the challenge of playing in the third tier of English football head on.

"I felt I improved as a player last year," he added.

"I felt fitter which really helped my game and I thought my decision making was better.

"It's going to be a big challenge but I think last season will help me.

"I had a spell on loan at Tranmere in League One when I was at Coventry and did well so I'm looking to do the same next year."

Grandison spent much of last season at right-back, a shift from the early stages of his career where he made his name at a centre-half.

And, in the wake of the departure of first-choice centre-half pairing Ian Sharps and Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, Grandison revealed he would be happy to move back to his original position.

"I'm not sure what the gaffer has in mind but I'm happy to play anywhere if I'm in the team," he said.
