AFC Telford breaking up longest away trip of the season

AFC Telford United have gone the extra mile to prepare for their longest away trip of the season – and boss Gavin Cowan says they must deliver.

The Bucks squad are travelling up to Northumberland today and stopping in a hotel before tomorrow’s 3pm encounter at Blyth Spartans.

And Cowan has called on them to give the Telford supporters, who are making the eight hour round trip, their money’s worth.

“We’re leaving today and stopping overnight,” he said.

“It’s those one per cents, isn’t it?

“The players have the benefit of not travelling up there on the day.

“We’re preparing in the right way so there’s no excuses.

“I’m thankful to the chairman, Andy Pryce, for putting that on for us and hopefully we’ll come away happy.”

The Bucks – third in National League North after 10 matches – are out to build momentum after last weekend’s 3-1 FA Cup win against Bedford Town.

They have gone two league games without a win.

Their last away game was a 3-0 loss at Darlington – their only defeat of the campaign so far.

“This is a completely different test for us,” said Cowan.

“But if the lads perform the way they can, and trust in the process, I’m sure we’ll do well.

“We’ve done all our homework on them, as we’ve done with everybody so far this season.

“We know everything there is to know about them so we’re looking forward to the game.”

Meanwhile, Cowan has urged his reserve goalkeepers to come up with more ways to impress him.

Telford currently have three shot-stoppers on their books.

Leicester loanee Max Bramley has been first choice. Andy Wycherley has been on the bench for the past several weeks, while Sheridan Martinez has been present on matchdays despite not being in the 16 recently.

All three have had game time so far this term and have been working hard in training – and Cowan is on the lookout for something extra.

“They’ve all been brilliant. They compete,” he added.

“It’s all about those small details now.

“When they’re training so well, how else can they impress me?

“Can it be their preparation? Can it be their desire?

“What else can they be doing to get in front of the other one?

“It’s good competition. We’re very fortunate to have three very good goalkeepers.”
