Larry Chambers' delight as Tom Tonks comes in
AFC Telford United have snapped up Stourbridge midfielder Tom Tonks to add some bite for their festive crunch period.
Tonks, who is a long-throw expert, has been drafted in to add more physical presence in the middle of the park as the Bucks gear up for four games against teams around them starting with tomorrow's visit of Lowestoft.
Combative Tonks joins Jack Rea, Jordan Wynter and Eddie Toner as options in central midfield after the release of Robert Paratore, with Greg Wilkinson having fallen down the pecking order.
Assistant boss Larry Chambers is delighted to have made the latest addition, with Telford free to make their move after a seven-day approach expired yesterday.
"We've been watching Tom for a while because he's been getting rave reviews," said Chambers.
"He was at Halesowen Town with Curtis Tilt, who's a good friend of his and he's a tough, hard-working midfielder with a lot of energy."
While Tonks became the latest signing, Telford are set to miss out on a centre-half.
Boss Rob Smith and Chambers are keen to recruit to the centre of defence having lost Paul McCone for up to a year with a fresh knee setback and Jack Deaman set to return to Cheltenham in January.
Telford, who have right-back Dwayne Samuels fit tomorrow but not left-back Darren Campion, are set to have their recent first-choice strike pairing together for the last time tomorrow.
Connor McCarthy is recalled after ineligibility to play the last game of his three-month loan from Southport while Dave Hibbert has recovered from a knee injury that caused him to miss last week's FA Trophy exit to Chester.
