Knee injury rules out Mike Grogan for months

AFC Telford United have been dealt a fresh blow after Mike Grogan was ruled out for up to three months.

The 26-year-old midfielder needs surgery after scans revealed he has torn medial ligaments in his knee.

Before the results, Grogan had been hoping to play on, but the diagnosis was the worst the club feared.

Grogan sustained the injury in the final pre-season friendly at Market Drayton on August 1, but after his appointment was twice re-arranged, he couldn't get it scanned until a week last Friday. Manager Rob Smith said: "He's had his scan results which show he's torn his medial ligaments and he requires an operation so we need to sort out when he can get into hospital.

"It's a massive blow because we were hopeful we could get him back playing but instead we've had the worst news possible.

"It's going to be four to six weeks' rehabilitation minimum after the operation and it depends on how quickly we can get him in."

Meanwhile, the "exciting" signing Smith talked about yesterday does not now look like coming off this week.

The Telford chief said: "It's more unlikely to happen this week now. If I was a betting man, I'd say it's not going to go through. It's down to the player and negotiations have ground to a standstill."
