Kittrick frustrated by AFC Telford loss

AFC Telford United manager Steve Kittrick was left severely frustrated after his team shipped three late goals against Forest Green Rovers.

The Bucks, who are now 10 points from safety following their 3-0 defeat at the New Lawn, had done a solid job containing their play-off-chasing opponents.

But, with a valuable point looming into view, Telford conceded three times in the final 25 minutes with Jon Parkin, Charlie Clough and Elliott Frear all scoring.

And Kittrick said: "For about 70 minutes, I thought we were in the game, but poor defending again and giving a silly free-kick away have cost us.

"It's same old, same old and it is very frustrating because we do speak about these things and people have got to take responsibility.

"But unless people do that we are going to end up with more games like that. I think some of the defensive frailties that were there before have started to rear their head again .

"When I came here we were 15 points adrift of safety, but we have got ourselves back into it.

"Then we have a 20 minute display like we did at the end in which we looked disjointed and not interested.

"And I have said to the players afterwards, there's one or two of them who have got to start looking at themselves and their performance because it is not good enough.

"It is not about systems, it is about players. They have got to want to put a shift in and for 70 minutes (we did).

"Alright we didn't create a great deal but Forest Green are fifth in the league, they are a good side, they are organised, they have got a lot of good Conference players.

"A lot of them have even played in the Football League and I thought we did alright against them for long periods.

"In my own mind I was thinking 'if we continue doing what we did in the first half in the second half we'll end up getting a point.

"But if we keep making mistakes like we did and just falling to pieces, not turning the ball in the right areas, just being unprofessional, we will get punished.

"I am disappointed in how we lost. That was the big thing because in the last 20 minutes we looked like a very poor side."

Telford were dealt a blow when they had to replace top-scorer Tony Gray at half time because of an eye injury, but Kittrick insisted that was no excuse for the final result.

He said: "It was a blow losing Tony Gray and the intention had been to get Tony on the ball as much as we could. But it is not all about Tony Gray.

"If he doesn't play on Tuesday against Grimsby it isn't the end of our season, but people have got to stand up and be counted - and there's too many of them not wanting to be counted."
