AFC Telford boss determined to get the best out of midfielder

AFC Telford manager Steve Kittrick is determined to bring the best out of midfielder Charlie Barnett.

Barnett has endured inconsistent form following his move to the New Bucks Head in the summer of 2013.

But Kittrick has been pleased with the 26-year-old's contributions since he became boss last month.

He said: "I have said to him that I think I have seen 60 per cent of what he's capable of.

"There is a lot more in him. I need him to get possession and get us started more."

Barnett helped Telford win the Conference North title last season but had been a peripheral figure this campaign under previous boss Liam Watson.

Kittrick believes that the former Liverpool youngster, who has played in the Football League with Tranmere and Accrington, has taken time to adjust to the part-time game.

"I do understand that when lads go out of the full-time game it does take time to adjust.

"I always remember when Andy Holdsworth joined my former club Guiseley, it took him 12-18 months to get his head round the non-league circuit.

"So it can be a bit of a culture shock but Charlie played a lot of league games for Accrington so he is a good player."
