Liam Watson warns AFC Telford on cup places

AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson has warned his players that a repeat of Saturday's showing could see them miss out of the FA Cup trip to Bristol City.

Telford will visit the League One heavyweights for an eagerly-awaited second round tie on December 7.

The Bucks set up that match by winning a gruelling first round replay against Basingstoke on Tuesday.

But they suffered a cup hangover on Saturday, shipping three poor first-half goals in a 3-1 defeat at home to Braintree Town.

And Watson said: "It is an excuse to say that some of the players were still feeling the effects from Tuesday's FA Cup game.

"I think (assistant manager) Dominic Morley hit the nail on the head when he said that the one thing that was a bit worrying was too many people chirping on about FA Cup games, prior to the game on Saturday.

"And let's face facts, the league is our bread and butter. This is more important to me than the FA Cup.

"I can't stress that enough, but for some unknown reason people get carried away with the cup.

"I had said prior to the game that they will end up playing themselves out of the game they want to play in.

"If they don't work hard in these games they won't play in it."

The Bucks have received an initial allocation of 1,000 tickets for the clash. They are on sale to season ticket holders and Trust members on a first come, first serve basis.

They are priced £12 adults, £8 seniors, £5 under-22s and £1 under-12s. They went on general sale at 9am today.
