Karl Ledsham insists AFC Telford can survive

Midfielder Karl Ledsham insists AFC Telford United have enough quality to win their Conference Premier relegation battle.

But they must improve significantly on their dismal first-half showing in Saturday's 3-1 home defeat to fellow strugglers Braintree Town.

The Bucks, who are now nine points from safety at the foot of the table, conceded three soft goals before half-time.

And despite an improved second-half display they were unable to salvage anything from the game.

Ledsham is on a month's loan from Lincoln City and, when asked if he had seen enough to suggest Telford can get themselves out of trouble, he said: "Yeah, without a doubt.

"I have played against sides this season that haven't got half the desire to stay up. I think we will be all right. If we get a couple of wins each month then we will be fine.

"The lads are good enough here. They are nowhere near as bad as some of the sides in this league, no disrespect.

"We are a good side, we have got goals in us, Steve Akrigg is an animal of a centre-half, we have got good full-backs.

"I just think confidence is a bit low. If we get a bit of form then we will be fine."

But he added: "You can't go in 3-0 down at half time and expect to get something out of the game. It's not good enough, the fans don't deserve it, and (manager) Liam (Watson) doesn't deserve it.

"We came out in the second half and tried to get an early goal, which we did.

"And then we have had a little spell of pressure after that but we just couldn't quite get the second goal."

Off the field, the AFC Telford United Supporters Trust has received £35,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a new project called Building the Telford Tribe.

The project will enable local young people to discover the history of football in the borough.

It will also help older folk reminisce about football in the town over the last 140 years by making photographs, club records, programmes and memorabilia accessible.
