AFC Telford going for a hat-trick of victories

AFC Telford United must continue to make the most of home comforts against fellow strugglers Braintree tomorrow.

The Bucks remain bottom of the Conference Premier but will be targeting a third successive victory in front of their own fans against their 15th-placed visitors.

And manager Liam Watson is urging his team to extend that run following back-to-back home wins in league and cup over Altrincham and Basingstoke.

The latter victory created history by earning the Bucks a place in the FA Cup second round for the first time in their 10 year history as well as setting up a money-spinning trip to Bristol City.

But Watson said: "For me, this is more important than the Basingstoke game for different reasons.

"Basingstoke was hugely important for financial reasons, but this is more important for the players as a team.

"We want to get off the bottom of the league for Christmas and the only way we are going to do that is by getting results.

"Obviously our last home game in the league against Altrincham, we won so we need to build on that."

After a poor start to the season, Telford have improved in recent weeks and go into tomorrow's match having lost just two of their last eight in all competitions.

Watson is expecting another demanding afternoon against Alan Devonshire's side at the New Bucks Head but said: "Our current run of form isn't bad, at all, so we should be confident.

"I feel a lot more confident going into games than I was six weeks ago so, hopefully, the lads will take that on board.

"You never get an easy game out of Braintree. It is always a tough place to go. They are a tough, strong side, Alan does a fabulous job with them and it will be no different tomorrow.

"But I would like to think that our players will be confident especially playing at home."

The Bucks will though be without midfielder Mike Grogan, who is suspended following his sending off for two bookings against Basingstoke in midweek.
