Twist of fate as Liam Watson nets duo for AFC Telford

AFC Telford boss Liam Watson has expressed his delight after making two signings to address the Bucks growing injury crisis.

Midfielder Karl Ledsham and left-back Kyle Brownhill both signed one-month loan deals yesterday after joining from Lincoln and Hyde respectively.

Ledsham spent three years with Watson at Southport and, in a strange twist of fate, the boss revealed he was at the game on Wednesday night that saw the Bucks beat Altrincham but lose fellow midfielders Mike Grogan and Sean Clancy to injury.

"It's strange because Karl came to watch us just out of interest on Wednesday night," said Watson. "He came off his own back and it's funny how things happen because we picked up those injuries in that game and now he has signed for us.

"He is a really energetic midfielder who scores goals at this level. He is big in stature and is someone who played for me for three years at Southport.

"I have got a lot of faith in him. He is a great lad and is friends with a few of the players already so he will have no problems settling in."

Watson is also excited by the arrival of 19-year-old left-back Brownhill, who was recently released by Premier League Burnley.

He said: "Kyle is a kid who moved from Stockport to Burnley in a deal that could have potentially risen to £100,000.

"It didn't work out for him and he has dropped into non-league. But he was eager to come to us on loan so we will take a look at him and see how he gets on."

Meanwhile, the boss has revealed he is in contact with Clancy, who suffered a broken collar bone and three broken ribs after a heavy landing against Altrincham.

"He is as well as can be expected," Watson said.

"He was on a lot of morphine when I spoke to him. He was in good spirits but devastated to be injured."

"But he is a good kid and a winner so he will be okay."

Clancy said: "I am really happy with the club and the way they looked after me on Wednesday night and Thursday was amazing.

"Straight away they did everything necessary and (community coach) Luke Shelley in particular sat with me in the hospital until the early hours of the morning and made sure I was OK.

"And the fans have been great as well. They have been on Twitter wishing me a speedy recovery. But I wouldn't expect anything less because the Bucks fans are quality. I want to say thank you."
