Godfrey Poku told he's let AFC Telford down

AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson accused midfielder Godfrey Poku of letting down the club after he was sent off for the second time in four games.

The former Mansfield Town player, who joined the Bucks in pre-season, was shown a straight red card yesterday.

He lashed out at striker Richard Brodie during Telford's 3-3 draw at home to Southport yesterday.

That dismissal, just before half-time with his team 2-1 down, came less than three weeks after he was sent off at Welling for two bookable offences in the opening game of the season.

And Watson said: "Godfrey Poku has let me down and the club down massively. Brodie's wound him up and he has bit.

"There is no defence for it whatsoever and he is going to be out for four games now."

Watson did not spare the rest of his team from criticism either, having been appalled by the defending that led to all three Southport goals – a Johnny Gorman free-kick and a Richard Brodie brace.

Telford managed to salvage a point thanks to Mike Phenix's 89th-minute leveller.

But Watson said: "I feel angry, I feel let down. All three goals that we conceded are an absolute disgrace.

"The fact that we scored three goals was great, and that we dug in and showed great attitude, commitment and character – but you need that at 0-0, not when you are down to 10 men at 2-1."

Watson, whose side last season won the Conference North, even admitted that he may have to move 'one or two' of his current squad on because they were 'out of their depth' playing in the higher-level Premier.

But he added that there was no truth in a rumour linking former Bucks striker Andy Brown, now at Nuneaton, with a return to Telford.
