Manager Liam Watson has confirmed that the highly-rated left-back is still struggling with a hamstring problem.

He has been sidelined for almost three weeks, since going off in the first-half of a friendly at home to FC United of Manchester.

Watson had hoped that both he and fellow defender Rod McDonald (ankle) would be back in time.

They travel to the Memorial Ground tomorrow, which will be followed two days later by a home clash with his former side Southport.

But he said: "Chris won't make it. Rod McDonald definitely will but Chris is definitely out.

"He hasn't suffered a relapse of his injury, he is just not healing as quickly as possible so he probably needs another week.

"On Tuesday he went with the physio, he was put through a session and he is still struggling so he just needs another week.

"It is a hamstring, so you don't really want to rush it."

McDonald's imminent return though ensures Watson will have some flexibility in terms of his defensive formation on Saturday.

He has been toying with the idea of playing three centre-halves at the weekend and said: "We haven't been able to do that.

"But him being back does give me the opportunity to do it if I think it is right."

The Bucks will go into the match with just one point from their opening three games, following a draw at Welling and defeats to Macclesfield and Aldershot.

But Watson feels that his team are better than their current tally suggests.

He added that his players will be looking forward to the Bank Holiday, which could yet yield a bumper points haul.

He said: "We just need to get our first win on the board and these two games give us a good opportunity to do that.

"We have just got to be positive and go into the next game looking forward to it."
