Blog: Youth is the way forward for AFC Telford

After the disappointment of English football in the burning Brazilian heat, it's about time some pride was restored to my footballing ego.

Let's hope the Bucks can make a start on Saturday at Welling, but no game next season will be easy,

writes AFC Telford United blogger Adam Edwards.

After that, we need to make the hallowed ground of The New Bucks Head a fortress and draw the large crowds that good performances deserve.

I, for one, am itching to get this season's campaign under-way. With the additions that manager Liam has brought in, it promises to be another thrilling season.

Hopefully, we can tread uncharted waters in the final league standings Youth is the way forward in Liam's master plan.

The older yet more experienced Simon Grand and Ryan Young have made way for the more youthful , and dare I say energetic, Jordan Deacey (20) and Jonathan Hedge (25).

I think he's right though. Youngsters. Something England doesn't produce many of, or at least to a high standard.

Admitted, these lads may never play for England, but playing them young may mould them into fantastic players who have an alliance to the club who gave them there break though, producing future legends.

The Conference Premier had evolved drastically since we left a mere 12 months ago. Just look at how much harder the Conference North was last season compared to when we last got promoted from it.

Torquay United, Bristol Rovers, Barnet and Aldershot have all joined since we left, with the latter two failing to return to the Football League at the first attempt, showing how competitive and difficult this league can be.

The majority of the pre-season games are now consigned to the history books and need to be put to the back of our minds.

After all, pre-season is all about experimental tactics, some will work and some won't but, without this important period, we will not be fully prepared for the tough competition ahead.

The AFC Telford team now need to draw the pros and cons of the tactics used in the games so far played, then scrap or tweak it until it suits our teams style.
