AFC Telford planning more player captures

AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson will be pressing on with plans to bring the next signings to the New Bucks Head.

Watson and his players were back at the ground for the club's end-of-season presentation night, which took place in the Whitehouse Hotel.

Southport defender Steve Akrigg and Witton Albion winger Josh Hancock have already joined and another two could soon come on board.

The Bucks boss is close to landing Ryan Young's replacement in goal for next season and will then switch his attentions to outfield players.

He said: "I want to make eight signings. We now need, at least, a couple of defenders and a couple of strikers, so there's work to be done.

"We have got two done and, if I can get another two done this week, I will be delighted."

Football League clubs have to file their released and retained lists today, due to regulations, so there will be plenty of players available.

Watson said: "I don't really look at them, anyway, we have our own targets. Some players like that will be holding out for bigger options.

"I don't want a load of trialists here, I want the squad together, as soon as possible."

The Telford chief does, however, leave money in the kitty for a late signing. Last season, midfielder Charlie Barnett came in days before the season began.

Watson said: "I always leave a little bit back in the budget. Someone always tends to turn up towards the end of pre-season or even after we get started.

"I doubt this year will be any different, so it's best to leave scope for one."
