Simon Grand in no rush on AFC Telford future

AFC Telford United captain Simon Grand today insisted he's in no rush to sort out his future at the New Bucks Head for next season's step up in class.

The Bucks skipper is out of contract this summer and has yet to be offered a new deal by manager Liam Watson.

The two have worked together since Watson took him to Southport in 2011 and he has been his captain for two years, following him to Telford last May.

The 30-year-old father-of-one is pre-occupied with his wedding to partner Catherine and will decide on his plans for next season when the time is right.

He said: "I am looking forward to a few weeks away now. I am getting married at the end of the month so I have the wedding and honeymoon to think about.

"It's just a matter of switching off and enjoying the break. It would be great if I can get my future sorted soon, but it's not a problem if it's after that.

Grand led the side to the Skrill Conference North title and has experience of the Premier with Southport, Northwich Victoria and Fleetwood Town.

The centre-back has also played in the Football League and won the Conference Premier and League Two championships with Carlisle.

He rates the just-gone season's exploits with the Bucks as up there with his best feats, as he reckons you can take nothing for granted in football.

He said: "It was brilliant, everything about it was superb. I have won League Two with Carlisle United before and been involved in a couple of play-offs.

"You achieve things in football and it's the like gaffer says, the things that are now are the biggest one because it's the latest thing in your career.

"It might be my last, you always have to think that, so it's special. I always that we could win the title, that's why I came to Telford in the first place."
