Ryan Young is unsure over AFC Telford future
AFC Telford United goalkeeper Ryan Young could have played his last game for the club after revealing he has relocated to the Isle of Wight.
Telford's longest-serving player, who has been at the New Bucks Head since 2007, moved away from his previous base in Cannock at the end of last year.
The 34-year-old's swan-song may have been Saturday's 3-0 last-day victory at home to Gainsborough Trinity, which landed the club the Skrill Conference North title.
The Bucks No 1 chose not to reveal his personal circumstances until the end of the campaign, to ensure there was no distraction to the team's promotion charge.
Young said: "It could be my last game and, if that's the case, I have left on the best terms I ever could have wished for. It was the best day of my life.
"To win a title is better than anything I have experienced, it's what you play football for. All of my family were here to see it, too. But there is some news in the pipeline.
"I moved away from the area on December 13 of last year and I have been living back on the Isle of Wight, where I am born and bred. I have moved my family there. I work in Luton.
"I haven't told anybody, I kept it quiet as I didn't want anybody to know. I didn't want any excuses while the season was still going on. It's time for everyone to know now.
"My Dad has been driving me up on Saturdays to play football. It's a lot of miles on the road and hours away from my kids but the football club do it for me. It's a special place.
"I have got to sit down with my wife and kids, my family come first. Then I will sit down with the manager, see if he still wants me and we will work something out."
Young is one of only two players to stay on after manager Liam Watson arrived last summer and he turned down a move to Football League club Mansfield Town last summer.
But the veteran insists he won't be hanging up his gloves if he does leave and would look for a club nearer to his home.
He said: "I had the chance last year to leave and join a Football League club but it wasn't right, I wanted to stay and get us back where we belong.
"I am 34 now and, one day, someone is going to take up Ryan Young's mantelpiece. I am not bigger than the football club.
"If I go, I am not retiring. I would play in the Conference South or Premier, if I can get it."
