Watson urges AFC Telford to finish the job

AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson today told his players he will accept "no excuses" for not claiming the Skrill Conference North title.

Victory against Gainsborough Trinity at the New Bucks Head on the last day of the season tomorrow will make them champions.

Six players in the Bucks squad – Chris Lever, Matthew McGinn, Alan Moogan, Robbie Booth, Wes Baynes and Tony Gray – have been involved in title-winning campaigns at the level, while Sean Clancy has been promoted through the play-offs.

Watson, himself, is the only manager to have won the league twice, both times with Southport.

And he said: "The game hasn't been won, that's the message. In effect, they have no excuses, because the experience in and around the group is phenomenal.

"We have got a lot of players in this team who have been there and done it, more than once."

Winger Mike Phenix surprisingly has an outside chance of rejoining the squad tomorrow, less than two weeks after being quarantined in hospital amid fears he had caught the MRSA super bug.

Striker Andy Owens is touch-and-go with an ankle injury from Monday's 2-2 draw at Solihull Moors, the same problem which has ruled out full-back Chris Lever. Defender Dan Preston is suspended.
