Matthew McGinn the spark for AFC Telford

AFC Telford United wing-back Matthew McGinn will be giving it all as the Bucks' wide-boy in the hunt for the Skrill Conference North title.

What will happen after that is anybody's guess, with the work commitments that saw him leave the last year's champions Chester in the summer.

The 30-year-old couldn't commit to the extended travelling that is part and parcel of life in the Conference Premier, as he's a trainee electrician.

He works on the set of Chester-based television series Hollyoaks and gets to rub shoulders with the stars of the small screen on a regular basis.

But all McGinn is focussed on is playing a starring role in making the Bucks champions, on the other flank as another ex-Chester man in Wes Baynes.

McGinn is the most capable deliverer of a dead-ball in Liam Watson's ranks and the way he whips them in over the next seven games could decide their fate.

He said: "It's always been hard for me with work commitments, as I am on shifts, but I will give it my all until the end of the season and then see what happens.

"If I can put the ball in the right area, we have got big lads in there and we have scored a few goals from set-pieces. We do well as a team and I am happy with that.

"I used to play on the wing, but I am older now. I am just happy to play, the gaffer has been using me as a wing-back and I am more of an attacking player.

"It was Liam who put first put me at left-back for Southport, I had a few games there and it sort of stuck from there."

McGinn will be part of Telford's travelling party at Guiseley tonight and they need to win to reclaim top spot from once-again league leaders North Ferriby United.

He, along with boss Watson, is in line for his third Conference North title, this time as a Buck, and will take as much pride in that and he did at Southport and Chester.

He knows it's approaching crunch time for the contenders to the throne with another big game on Saturday, at home to an Altrincham side that can still catch them.

Then it's back on the road to play Oxford City next Tuesday night, before another trip to play Colwyn Bay on Saturday week. It's all go, as McGinn is well aware of.

He said: "It's a lot closer this year than when I was at Chester, who ran away with it, but we have got a good bunch of lads who can do it. I love winning leagues.

"This will be the third title for me if we can do that, along with the gaffer. I want to win every game, like he does, he has always done well in this league.

"The next couple of weeks are going to be big, with two Tuesday games away and Saturday at home on the bounce. We will just take each one as it comes.

"We will be as prepared as we can be. The gaffer will have had each team watched and if lads aren't in the squad, it doesn't mean they won't be for the next game.

"A lot of teams have played less games than us, too, we are the ones that are actually not playing Tuesday-Saturday that much. We haven't done that for a while.

"The lads are looking fit and we are ready to go into the game tonight. Guiseley have always been a good side and as long as we don't get beat, it's a good result for us.

"Alty have always been there or thereabouts in the play-off mix and we will prepare right in training on Thursday to take them on. The lads will know what to do.

"We are good at home and we always seem to score goals."
