AFC Telford boss Liam Watson targets friendly during break
AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson is trying to arrange a friendly next Tuesday to keep his players ticking over during their enforced break.
The Bucks face two weeks out of action after Saturday's scheduled league clash with Brackley Town was postponed due to the hosts' involvement in the FA Cup.
The visit of North Ferriby United to the New Bucks Head in 10 days time is their next competitive match.
But Watson wants a tune-up for his squad, in the meantime, having played a similar game away at Welsh Premier League club Airbus last month, winning 4-1.
Watson said: "I am trying to arrange a friendly for next Tuesday. We have players who need to be kept ticking over and one or two need games.
"I have got one or two in mind who haven't got fixtures but I want it to be a half decent test like Airbus, which was a good match."
Watson is hoping, should his plans for a friendly be successful, midfielder Martyn Jackson and winger Jake Bennett will have recovered from injury to play.
Jackson is recovering from an ankle problem he came back with after a loan spell at Stafford Rangers, while Bennett has taken a bang to the foot in training.
Transfer-listed defender Dan Preston could also put himself in the shop window if he figures, after an enquiry from Skrill Conference Premier club Alfreton Town.
Second-choice goalkeeper Andy Pryce would be between the sticks, with opportunities so far limited on the playing side for the former Market Drayton shot-stopper.
But Pryce is playing a key role on Watson's back-room staff as goalkeeping coach after replacing Darryl Smith in the summer, working one-to-one with No 1 Ryan Young.
Watson said: "We look at Andy as very much being part of the staff, as well as being our second goalkeeper. I have been made up with him so far.
"He's a good lad and someone who was first mentioned in a conversation with our managing director, Lee Carter, who thinks well of him.
"I met Andy, had a chat with him and took it from there."
