Dan Preston told his AFC Telford chance will come
AFC Telford United defender Dan Preston was today assured of a first-team future at the New Bucks Head despite his wait to stake his claim.
The 21-year-old former Birmingham City centre-half has yet to figure in the Skrill Conference North season, due to the form of defensive pairing Neill Byrne and captain Simon Grand.
Preston got 90 minutes under his belt in Tuesday night's 3-1 friendly win at Welsh Premier League side Airbus, as he made a case for further inclusion.
And Bucks manager Liam Watson has promised his time will come having been impressed by the player's attitude.
Watson said: "Dan's chance will come a lot sooner rather than later. I have been massively impressed with him. He's a great lad who has worked tremendously hard.
"He's accepted my decisions so far and stood behind everyone, I think he's been a credit to himself.
"He's got a big part to play this season."
Watson is still trying to arrange another friendly next week to get more match fitness into Preston, Jake Bennett and on-the-mend duo Sean Cooke and Mat Bailey.
The Telford boss said: "It's important that we keep on playing and giving everyone game-time, I am not really bothered where it is, as long as we get a decent game."
