AFC Telford forced to play waiting game over Alan Moogan
AFC Telford United today faced an anxious wait to discover the extent of Alan Moogan's groin injury after the midfielder was hurt on Saturday.
Moogan was replaced, rather than hauled off, at half-time during the Bucks' 3-1 win at Gainsborough Trinity in the Skrill Conference North.
The club's player-coach was struggling early on and Charlie Barnett filled the breach from the break, having a hand in the equaliser.
Manager Liam Watson didn't realise how much pain Moogan was in until the sides went in at the interval and immediately made the change.
The Bucks boss has been left sweating that he may lose the former Everton trainee for Saturday's clash at home to much-fancied Harrogate Town.
All Watson can do is be patient while Moogan's problem settles down and he can be properly assessed before the squad trains again this week.
Watson said: "Alan got injured in the first minute and he was dead on his legs long before the break. To be honest, we should have took him off earlier.
"We didn't realise how bad it was, he just seemed miles off it. He was shouting to come off with about 10 minutes to go.
"He's got a slight strain to his groin and we will have to see how that settles down over the next 48 hours. I will know more then."
Watson was left fuming by the break at the Northolme on Saturday as his side trailed 1-0, before coming back to take three points after the interval.
The Telford chief has lamented his players for below-par displays in four of the five league fixtures played so far, but his side still have 11 points to show for their efforts.
The Bucks are fourth and a place ahead of Saturday's visitors going into the fixture, but Watson agrees that his players need to put in a proper shift next time.
He said: "I keep on telling them that it takes years to build up a reputation and weeks to lose it. We keep on saying that we have got to improve – and we still do.
"It's about us trying to gel and, in the second-half on Saturday, we did. But we have got three points where we would have been lucky to get one."
