Dan Preston will get AFC Telford chance, says Liam Watson

AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson today insisted defender Dan Preston will not be leaving the New Bucks Head on loan despite continuing to miss out on a place in the team.

Neill Byrne and captain Simon Grand have been preferred to the former Birmingham City centre-back in the first four games of the Skrill Conference North season.

But Watson has assured Preston, who has been carrying an injury, that he will get his chance to stake a claim for the side when the boss feels there is an opening.

Chris Lever will also find himself jostling for a place in the starting line-up after picking up a knee injury, Matthew McGinn coming in to take his place at left-back.

Tuesday night's friendly at Welsh Premier League side Airbus could be a chance to catch the eye, in a game arranged to give the fringe players some match time.

And Watson said: "Dan will not be leaving us, he's just waiting for his time.

"When he does get in, he will get the same amount of loyalty as the two centre-backs are getting now.

"Chris Lever is in the mix and can play at centre-half and Dan has got a slight adductor strain.

"It's one of those where he would be fine, but we are trying to look after him."

Meanwhile, the AFC Telford United Supporters Trust has announced that David Embery, its chairman since 2007, has stood down from the post due to work commitments.

The trust board has since elected vice-chairman Michael Frater in his place. Frater also led the Peer Review of the club two years ago.
