Championship side Huddersfield have asked about taking teenage AFC?Telford midfielder Jake Bennett on trial.

The Telford-born 17-year-old, the cousin of Norwich midfielder Elliott Bennett and Doncaster's Kyle, is the subject of interest from the Yorkshire outfit. The Bucks agreed to their request but there has been no further approach since from the Terriers about Bennett, who spent time with League One club Walsall in the summer.

Bucks boss Liam Watson is still planning to send Bennett on loan to Evo-Stik First Division South side Chasetown to get him more match action.

Bennett made five first-team appearances in the club's doomed Conference Premier campaign last season and will figure in a friendly on Tuesday night against Welsh side Airbus.

Watson said: "I want to dampen the speculation on him if I can, but he's still eligible to enter youth academies and we have had an enquiry about it.

"Huddersfield wanted to know his age and so on, then asked us if we would be prepared to let him out on trial and the answer from us was yes. But we haven't heard anything more since then."

Meanwhile, defender Chris Lever will miss tomorrow's trip to Gainsborough Trinity after failing to recover from a knee injury, while winger Sean Cooke is also not ready to return.

Lever is still feeling effects of the knock picked up in last weekend's 2-1 win at Gloucester City, so Matthew McGinn is again likely to start at left-back.

Cooke is not far off a full recovery from the fractured leg he had when he arrived at the club in the summer.

But Watson wants to see the 20-year-old complete more contact training before throwing him into the fray, although he may be involved in the Airbus game.

Watson has led his side to eight points from four games so far but believes his side have yet to entertain.

He added: "It's been difficult, but it's also been boring as we haven't played through teams.

"Our best performance so far was away at Boston, because they come to have a go at us."
